Recently, we’ve been receiving a number of questions regarding our product range. One of which was, ‘Are your products gelatine-free?’.
Of course, for many ostomates, this information can be very important when choosing which bag will offer the qualities that they need. Gelatine is an extract from the protein collagen found in animal tissues and is therefore generally avoided by people who are following a vegan or vegetarian diet. Likewise, Sikh, Hindu & Jain customs may also require people to try and avoid gelatine products if possible.
To help make things a bit clearer, we’re going to list all of the gelatine-free products in our range below.
Primo®
The Primo® range has been designed with patients and Healthcare Professionals and comes with a whole host of benefits. As well as being gelatine-free, our Primo® bags are anatomically shaped and have a fantastic reputation for minimal reports of any skin reactions.

Microskin®
Unique to Oakmed, the Microskin® adhesive is thin, transparent and flexible. One of the best qualities that this range has to offer is the fact that it easily moulds to all of the body’s contours and creases – therefore significantly reducing the risk of any leakages.

Alginate
All our Alginate products contain 15% Alginate, a natural ingredient derived from seaweed, known for its moisture absorbing and soothing properties. Alginate may help to promote skin health around your stoma.

Soft Convex
The soft convex range offers plenty of choice and high levels of security. With 7mm of convexity, the range includes both drainable and closed bags in our Primo® tapered edge Hydrocolloid and soothing Alginate adhesives.

Low Profile Soft Convex
The low profile soft convex range, with a shallower 3.5mm depth of convexity, offers the same choice and high levels of security as our Soft Convex range. Including both drainable and closed bags in our Primo® tapered edge Hydrocolloid and soothing Alginate adhesives, this is an extremely cost effective product.
