  • Stoma paste Adhesive remover (Easylease 1206)
  • Incontinence sheets
  • Large yellow Rubbish bags
  • Scissors
  • Suction equipment
  • Wound manager (appropriate size)

  • Oxygen / barrier film if the skin is excoriated

How Do I Apply an Oakmed Wound Manager?

  1. Help the patient to lie down in bed.
  2. Gently remove the previous wound manager using adhesive remover wipes if the adhesive is not coming away easily.
  3. If the fistula is active make sure the suction system is working and get another nurse to assist you.
  4. Remove the wound manager from its packet and keep clean and dry.
  5. Clean around the fistula and surrounding skin.
  6. Using the cutting guide trace the exact shape of the wound. Cut this shape out and lay it face down onto the wound manager hydrocolloid paper side. Draw around the shape and cut this out. Then trim away another 2mm.
  7. To protect wound edges get the seal and stretch to fit them around the wound. If it is a very large wound then the Oakmed MF2222 sheet maybe more economical to use for this. If the skin is excoriated apply a barrier film.
  8. On top of this apply a layer of stoma paste.
  9. Remove the backing paper from the wound manager and apply it over the wound. Make sure that it is well stuck down to the skin by pressing firmly into position.
  10. Ask the patient to remain lying down for 20 minutes to allow the adhesive to fully bond with the skin before moving.
  11. Make sure the tap at the bottom is firmly closed or attached to a further drainage system.
