"I was ok with my original bag although my routine to put it on and take it off was increased by the need to wear 2 extra flanges and a belt to support the bag. I saw microskin demonstrated and my wife persuaded me to try it. I realised then how long my original routine had taken me.

I have never had a leak from the microskin, even at night time and I can sleep in comfort and confidence (unless I have fitted it badly and the flange has creased and then it is obvious very quickly)

You may remember that we met at a recent "Ostomates" meeting at the John Radcliffe. I told you about my continued problems with a colostomy that has a hollow to one side and is surrounded by loose, elderly skin folds, and has a substantial ( 4.5 inch) prolapse; nothing stayed on for more than two days and unpredictable leaks were frequent.

You suggested that I should visit the Oakmed display to see their Microskin colostomy bags. I was very impressed by these and have given them an extensive trial. They have proved to be excellent and have transformed my colostomy management greatly for the better.

They stay on easily for a week without any unpredictable leaks, with total reliability. I now change the 'base plate' every Sunday morning and know where I stand. The semi-permeable membrane conforms easily to any skin folding or wrinkling, quite unlike the relatively inflexible hydrocolloid bags previously used, which would detach if any skin folding occurred.

They are very easy to clean, without any sticky mess of degraded hydrocolloid adhesive when being changed. A simple moist sponging is all that is required to give a fresh, clean surface for the new appliance. This is a major advantage and far superior to hydrocolloid adhesives.

I can now control my prolapse by a simple device. The extreme flexibility of the baseplate allows this to be effective in a way not previously possible. Wonderful! I can now do what I want in comfort (even gardening ) without the fear of an unexpected leak or uncomfortable descent of the prolapse.

I strongly recommend this bag for any problem colostomy or indeed routine colostomy management. The Oakmed skin wafer, microskin, either as a one or two piece version, seems to me, as a retired surgeon, to be a remarkable advance. Again, many thanks for your invaluable advice.

I feel I just have to write to say how fantastic the Microskin bags are. They have totally changed my life.

I now have total confidence in my bag, which has never been the case before. I have no more leaks, they are very flexible and like a second skin.
