Oakmed

The new MF2222 is a very thin, flexible, large hydrocolloid sheet (22cm x22cm).

It has a gelatine free advanced hydrocolloid formulation having no tackifying resins and yet adheres well to the skin.
In studies by the University of Miami it has been found that the MF2222 has a very low propensity for skin irritation
Has a very low Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate (MVTR) keeping the wound bed moist but not excoriated
It is very mouldable due to the advanced hydrocolloid formulation. It can be cut into strips and folded around a wound / stoma/ fistula or moulded into shape.
It has the same properties as the stoma seals (WM100) MF2222 sheet.
It can be used to build up an area ( to help create a flat area) by putting strips on top of one another.
It is very useful as it is so adaptable - being able to use it as a flat sheet or to cut and shape parts of it.

Because of these properties it can be used in a variety of ways including the use as a primary dressing or as a base to create a smooth flat surface on the patients skin to adhere other dressings or wound manager bags to. It would also help create a flat surface in order to apply a stoma bag too.

There has also been the successful use of it with the application of topical negative pressure When the VAC is being used and the patient has a fistulae/stoma they need to isolate the fistula/stoma so they are free flowing while the wound is drawn together with the low pressure vacuum system.
The MF2222 is used to prepare a level platform around the wound and to isolate the fistula, gauze is placed in the fistula, the wound is packed with the black foam packing and then the VAC clear dressing is placed over the wound. A hole is then cut into the clear dressing over the fistulae, the gauze removed a drainage bag attached (Oakmed Option Manager or Connect 2) and the exudate/ faeces is allowed to free flow unrestricted by the VAC.
